Lounge Conjunction

Updated May 2009 Mike de Graeve is the central force behind LOUNGE CONJUNCTION and B020 RECORDS His love for Music and Computers started at early age. As a 15 year old he starts working for a local pirate radio station (Disco Action) in Amsterdam and at the age of 18, he’s working in a computer shop selling the old Commodore VIC-20, the well known Commodore C64 and the famous retro vector game computers. After doing some time in the Army and a long journey around the world Mike picks up his passion for music and computers again in 1994 and start studying at the SAE (School of Audio Enginering) in Amsterdam. During his study, he started working as a sound engineer for SSR studios in Amsterdam. For three years, he fine-tuned his production skills, and together with Mike Vandenberg (Sadie Records) he produced the timeless Nibiru album “Pretty Dark Butterfly.” The album was picked up by Combined Forces and released in late 1998. The track "Traveller" from this album was released again on Sander Kleinenberg's Essential Mix by Warner music. Tired of being a sound engineer, Mike decided to start his own label (Nibiru Records) and Music Studio that same year. Lounge Conjunction was born and became Mike’s main project. Besides production, Mike started playing downtempo- and deephouse music at some small bars in Amsterdam and by the end of 1999, Mike was playing two prominent clubs, Club NL (Nieuwezijds Lounge) and the famous Supperclub. From 2000 to 2001, in a joint venture with labels EMI Music and Combined Forces, he released two Lounge Conjunction compilations, as well as his first 12-inch EP “Yellowbird". In April, 2002, Mike ended the deal with EMI and Combined Forces, and began to operate independently. He continued producing music as Lounge Conjunction, sometimes collaborating with other producers and DJs. Together with his friend Marlon Solano he forms the duo " Ike and Lon" Mike also produced a fantastic remix for Solid Sessions’ track “Janeiro”, released by 'Cloud9 dance'. “An excellent version that creates an inviting and intimate lounge/nu-groove experience, warm keypads, floating instrumentation -this is a cut that could be heard on the F-communication label” ( Review by Starbass.com ) Mike released two 12-inch EP's on his own label, Nibiru Records (today B020 RECORDS) Lounge Conjunction: Ataman EP (Ni001), and Lounge Conjunction: Nansei Syoto (Ni002). Both were very well received and instantly picked up by the well-known deep house label Airtight. In August 2003, Airtight released a Lounge Conjunction EP, on both 12-inch vinyl and CD formats, featuring the tracks "Give" (from Ni001), and "Nansei Syoto - Sunset Remix" (from Ni002). After 2003 the Internet market starts to build up a budgets for underground music are hard to find. More and more Dj’s start to download their music….legal and illegal. Production wise things are starting to slow down and Mike decides to start another company called Base020, he specializes in design and redesign of high quality, interactive websites. For the past 6 years Mike is working the Internet market successfully and although he’s not producing any new tracks his music can still be found on countless compilations (Digital, CD, DvD) and in various digital music shops such as Beatport, TackitDown and Itunes. The good news? After several (remix) requests and a high doses of creative input we are happy to tell you that : LOUNGE CONJUNCTION IS BACK UNDER B020 RECORDS....
